Vanessa Art

Welcome to Vanessa-Art.co.uk

I like to bring attention to ordinary things. The roundness of the shape of a jug or a fold in a piece of fabric is described intimately to the viewer.

I believe that a still life should be found and not contrived, active and not static. Objects are often edited so they appear out of the picture plane as if they have just arrived or are about to be moved. Flowers are included to give life to a painting but they are informal and are rarely the prime focus of the composition.

The space between the objects is as important as the object itself. These areas have an activity of their own, often showing dabs of light and shade in quiet conversation.

The still lifes and interiors of the 19th and 20th Century French and British artists are a continual inspiration and my love of colour has been influenced by the Scottish Colourists. My work is often described as 'painterly'.
